The Teddy Bear Museum

Dorchester's unmissable family museum. From the earliest teddies to today's TV favourites, there are hundreds of cute teddy bears waiting to meet you.

The Teddy Bear Museum's ever-growing collections of teddy bears encompass bears from the very earliest to modern favourites. From antique and vintage bears dating from as early as 1906 to individually crafted designer bears by internationally renowned artists of the late 20th century.

The Teddy Bear Museum

There are important vintage bears from the earliest prototypes by The Ideal Toy Company, as well as Steiff, Farnell, Merrythought, Deans, Chiltern, vintage Chad Valley and many others.

The collection also includes a unique group of specially commissioned replicas of the world's most famous and valuable bears that have achieved world record-breaking prices at auction.

The Museum also exhibits a popular collection of much-loved stars and celebearties from movies, television, books and comics.

The most popular characters include Winnie the Pooh, Rupert, Paddington and of course his Aunt Lucy and Sooty, including a vintage original Harry Corbet musical automata. American teddy bear cousins are well represented including the ever-popular Yogi Bear.

The Teddy Bear Museum

Perhaps the Museum's most unusual feature is that the teddy bear collections are housed in an early Victorian building that has been arranged and furnished as a timeless period home of yesterday. Edward Bear will welcome you into his unique teddy bear house with life-sized bears who collect Teddy Bears! Their collection is displayed throughout their house and these unique, large and cuddly bears, would love you to come and visit their charming home. You can join the bears as they relax around the home or busy themselves at work – it's a delight for visitors of all ages. A visit is an enchanting and nostalgic experience for young and old at heart!

The Teddy Bear Museum first opened in Bournemouth in 1990 as The Bournemouth Bears. It later relocated to Dorchester in 1995 renamed Teddy Bear House. With an ever-growing collection, the Museum later moved to a historic Victorian building in Dorchester as The Dorset Teddy Bear Museum. It is Britain's oldest teddy bear museum and is now regarded as The English Teddy Bear Museum.
